spiritual growth

I’m starting off 2013 with a different plan for spiritual growth than I used last year.  2012 was another year of reading through the Bible- something I love to do.  God’s Word is my delight!  His Word is truth and equips me to navigate through this life that often includes detours- do you know what I mean?!

My handy-dandy pocket sized Bible published by Zondervan includes several pages of Reader’s Helps, and this one, The Ministry of Jesus, has me particularly interested.  The progression of His earthly ministry is noted in the left column and the coordinating references for the scripture passages are in the four columns that indicate which gospel writings covered the event.  So, I will study my way through the life and ministry of Jesus, the parables of Jesus, and finally, the miracles of Jesus.  2013 is a year to focus on my most perfect example!

The Spirit has also led me to put a chunk of scripture in my heart, and I have already begun to work on Romans chapter 8.  Why this chapter?  I feel the Lord led me to it, and if what has happened in the past is true for this new season, He is preparing me with a truth that He deeply roots within me before I actually walk through a situation where I get to test its validity.

In addition to taking in the Word of God, I will also participate in a 21-day fast with the goal of setting aside the all-consuming activities of this busy life and tuning in more to the heart of God.  I want to hear Him speak clearly to me.

I desire Jesus.  That’s it in a nutshell.  I am convinced that 2013 holds much promise.
