washes you clean
Today brought the opportunity for the believers to participate in communion. We joined together singing “the blood of Jesus washes me” as we walked to the front of the sanctuary and received the elements. It was an incredible time of personal reflection. I am forever thankful that Christ’s blood did the complete work of saving my soul.
I remember the night that I first surrendered my heart to the Father. It was beautiful, cleansing and freeing. I may not have understood in that moment the truth regarding all of my past, present and future sins now forgiven, but I did feel the sense of relief within my soul. Isn’t that amazing? My soul comprehended and responded to the fact that my sin was removed from me because I prayed and said, “Yes” to God’s wonderful gift of grace.
My worship during the communion service today also took me to thoughts of blood as a cleansing agent. We read Old Testament accounts of blood sprinkled on things and people as a representation of God setting the item or person apart for His holy service. Even white garments that the priests wore were sprinkled with the blood of a spotless bull or ram. God mandated this practice to set the eternal truth into our understanding: it is only the blood of the Lamb that makes you holy.
I thought about the look of blood on clothing or skin- it first looks red but dries and turns brown. The feel of blood is also a different experience. It’s sticky and it hardens. Blood doesn’t just roll off the skin and disappear like water does. It leaves a mark. Anyone who looks upon a blood-stained garment or body knows that something happened, and the same is true for our lives when we surrender them to God. Believing upon the precious blood of Jesus to save us is an experience that marks our lives and changes things. First, God declares us holy and acceptable for service to Him. Next, something sticky and noticeable gets the attention of others.
There’s no hiding a changed life, a marked life, or a life set apart to bring glory to God!
What has been your experience with the blood of Jesus Christ? I pray that as you read this post, you will stop and consider your soul, your service to God, and your life. Everything needed for peace with God, purpose for eternity, and influence for good is summed up in one word. It’s the BLOOD of Jesus.
A song to the Lamb recorded in Revelation 5:9-10:
You are worthy to take the scroll and to open it’s seals,
because You were slain, and with Your blood you purchased men for God
from every tribe and language and people and nation.
You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign on the earth.
