it’s time for a revolution
I can tell when I have had an overdose of news commentary. My thoughts seem to linger on the fact that there is much morally wrong with our nation. I become despondent and wonder what it would be like to live in a different part of the world. I ask for your forgiveness over my thoughts of abandonment, dear American citizens. I checked for a Patriot pulse, and it appears I am not dead yet!
I was reminded on Veteran’s Day that patriotism began with We the People… Those are words birthed out of a revolution. In that moment, something stirred within me. “It’s time,” I whispered. “We the people- that’s where we lost it. That’s why we’re on this downward spiral.”
Good citizens, unite! Now is the time to instill in every teachable heart the values that built this great nation! You take every opportunity to speak into the lives of children and young people. Tell them that Jesus is the Author, Sustainer and Savior of their lives. This is foundational knowledge to pass down to the next generation. Jesus will be for them the true source of power and courage.
Tell them about love, love that considers others better than themselves. They will be in wonder of this love that causes fellow-man to sacrifice things of great value. It will open their eyes to the perverted love they have witnessed, an all-together self-serving attempt at love.
Tell them about faith. Be real in your passion for God’s Word. Rehearse the accounts of mighty exploits for God’s kingdom that would have been impossible apart from faith in the Almighty. Let them hear your stories of times when you were up against the wall with no escape until you called out to God, and He showed up and rescued again. Speak often and speak boldly, for the youth today need a renewal of faith.
Explain the Father’s heart regarding purity in their lives. His prescription for living unentangled to sin requires our daily intake of keeping eyes, ears, hearts and bodies free from unholy ties. Tell them that when they look upon a child, a man or woman, they are beholding one made in the image of Holy God, and they must revere each individual and never seek to defile him or her.
If America continues to lose her way and she one day fails to stand as a city on a hill where others are drawn to her light, may the Patriot pulse be within our successive generations. May they have the courage to overturn the works of injustice and abandonment of righteousness. “This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance (and for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe” (1 Timothy 4:9-10).
Good citizens, unite! “Command and teach these things. Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity” (1 Timothy 4:11-12).
