where’s your focus

Happy start to 2014! Have you made any resolutions for the new year? Do you have a plan to accomplish some goals?

Personally, I’m tackling growth goals in every facet of life: spiritual, emotional, physical, and relational. I’m looking forward to jump-starting the plan with a 21-day fast beginning next week. During this time I will not only be focusing on my food and beverage intake but also my interaction with all forms of media. While I know the food fast will have great detoxifying benefits for me physically, I am even more expectant of the media fast to clear my mind and to lead my heart to a closer walk with the Lord.

This brings me to the charge I need to share with you today: understand that there are many “voices” vying for our attention. Our thoughts can become so polluted as a result of ingesting the ever increasing messages of television, radio, internet, social media forums… I believe that we are guilty of crowding out the voice of God, but that does not have to continue. Take some time today and every day this year to commune with the Father in heaven. He’s speaking and drawing us nearer to Him. The question is, are we listening?

I forgot to ask, what’s in your cup today? I’m starting to wean myself from caffeine in order to avoid withdrawal headaches next week, so it’s decaf hazelnut!

Here’s a scripture for focus on the true source of our strength!

“Look to the Lord and His strength; seek His face always” (1 Chronicles 16:11, NIV).

Savor it!

  1. I never thought of a media fast. I think I like it. May we fill our minds and hearts with the things of the Lord and block out the voices from the enemy. May God bless you on your 21 day fast and may it result in a deeper walk with our Savior. I’ll be praying for you.
