take a break from the normal
I’m so thankful for this time of year when my church kicks off a corporate fast. Yeah, I’m hungry, but I’m finding the words of Jesus to be meaty: “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.” On that note, I have no coffee in my cup… I think I’m really going to miss the coffee…
After indulging in everything tasty the past several weeks, it is good to spend some concentrated time detoxifying the body and the soul. I’m tuning out of television programing and social media so that I may be more focused on tuning in to the voice of God. Already today, I hear Him speak and direct me as I pray for friends and loved ones and as I plan for the year. The truth is simple: God has things for me to experience, and I don’t want to miss out on them due to my negligence to be still and hear. This fast is a prime opportunity for my spiritual appetite to be reawakened.
I leave you with Psalm 16:11, a verse that summarizes the ultimate goal of a fast, in my opinion.
“You have made known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand.”
