which table are you going to choose?

I like the way Jesus keeps it simple. I need simplicity. Show me the way that doesn’t work, and teach me the way that I am to go. The proven way. The God-pleasing way that promises reward. Basically, that is the message of Jesus’ words recorded in John 10:10.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

See? The way of the thief- that doesn’t work! But, Jesus? He brings life- fullness of life! Doesn’t that make you thirsty? Doesn’t that make it clear? It doesn’t take a doctorate in theology to grab hold of this truth! I’m convinced I only need to feast at Jesus’ table, and I will enjoy His reward- now and forevermore.

Let me ask you a question: If you find a thief in your house, would you walk away and allow him to take over your home and family? You absolutely would not!! You would fight to your death to protect the lives of  precious loved ones!

Yet, when the spiritual thief comes to steal, you fix him dinner! You repeat his words of death and destruction over your life. Your thoughts entertain pictures of a desolate future… You have a thief who works destruction over your mind, attitudes, relationships, finances, and health, but he’s not getting out until you rise up and tell him to go!

Read John 10:10 again. On which side of the semi-colon are you? Honestly, evaluate your life, and ask God to show you what He sees.

Can I be candid with you? I vividly recall a desperate prayer years ago in which I asked the Lord to sear His Word upon my heart. I mean, I was sobbing. (Sounds overly dramatic, doesn’t it?) But hear me out on this. I was being led by the Spirit to earnestly ask the Lord to transform my life through the renewing of my mind. I remember saying, “If your Word is not inside of me, I don’t know what’s going to happen me.” I can’t emphasize adequately the sheer desperation of heart by which I made my plea to the Father.  I understand more fully today why there was such an urgency in my spirit. You see, we’re all accessible to the enemy, but we’re not all susceptible to his deception. Only those who guard in their hearts the truth of God according to His perfect Word will walk free from entanglement.

Ready for fullness of life? Jesus keeps it simple for us: “Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord” (Deuteronomy 8:3).

  1. Thank you for this, Renee. I found the following so encouraging: “You see, we’re all accessible to the enemy, but we’re not all susceptible to his deception.” And I am challenged to allow God to sear His Word in my heart to keep Satan where he belongs. May God bless you and continue to make you a blessing to others.
