the fight

I had another one of those nice runs on my favorite trail today. The air temperature was just right- a chilly breeze but plenty of sunshine. By time I got a mile into the course, my body temperature was warm, and my short-sleeved tee-shirt felt great.

I also enjoyed freshly today the realization that I run the trail unhindered by fear. There are many reasons that would prevent me from exercising faith while I run alone, including the counsel of others and past experiences. In addition to knowledge, I also have battled vain imaginations concerning the trail. The enemy is always ready to incite fear through the thoughts he trafficks in my mind.

So why do I push past all of that? What is so compelling about outdoor physical fitness that causes me to persevere?

Years ago I had a dream of me running and enjoying the vista from a hilltop vantage point. It felt so good to run in the dream; I was free and strong… Then I woke up! I can honestly say my first emotion of that morning was disappointment. It was only a dream.

Maybe you have experienced this, too. You have a dream that sparks something new within you. It seems so far out of reach, but, deep down, you want to find out if it could be reality. Not all dreams speak of future direction, so I need to be careful here. Let me address this one in isolation. I now wanted to run. Even though it was physically challenging for me and my breathing was poor, I wanted to run.

I want you to realize your dreams. I only hope that my words will stir you to push past whatever presents itself as a cause for limitation in your life. Your coming alive to your dream and being free and strong is not out of reach! It is the plan of God for you.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith”                                 (2 Timothy 4:7).

The apostle Paul defined the fight… it’s the fight to keep the faith, to complete the race through spiritual perseverance. To do this we must fight against feelings, against statistical knowledge, against past experiences, against well-intended but misplaced words of others… We must fight to believe that because Jesus is the authority; every title that exists and even those titles yet to exist are all under His feet (Ephesians 1:22). He is conqueror over all that concerns us in the world. We fight to live in this mindset! We fight to believe that because we’re connected to Jesus, we are conquerors, and all things are beneath our feet.
