Resistance.  I tried opening a cabinet drawer that just wouldn’t budge.  I moved my hand around inside the little bit of opening that I did have and discovered a hard sponge blocking the way.

Do we ever find ourselves with hardness of heart, blocking the move of God in our lives?  Just like the kitchen sponge, our hearts can become hard like stones and resist His will.

John Eldredge writes, “Our heart is the key to the Christian life.  The apostle Paul informs us that hardness of heart is behind all addictions and evils of the human race (Rom. 1:21-25).  To lose heart is to lose everything.” 1

What is the solution?  How can we ensure our hearts are pure, supple and useful like a wet, soapy sponge in our hands?
