building your house (September focus)
Do you ever have a desire to reinvent your life? Perhaps you want to change careers or location. Some people reinvent their lives through exercise, food choices and a change in fashion.
God expertly makes the way for a new life. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through Me” (John 14:6). When the Father in heaven remakes a person, “he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17)!
If you said, “yes” to Jesus being in charge of your life, you are on a great adventure of knowing Him and knowing how your life fits into God’s plan.
Jesus spoke thoroughly on the outcome of a life connected to Him. The principle is that He is the Vine, and we are the branches. Through our connection to Him, we produce good fruit.
The Bible explains in detail the outcome of a transformed life. Jesus gives many directives on how we are to conduct ourselves in the lifestyle of grace. In other words, through our connection to the Vine, we will see these things happening within us as a result of His holy power at work to change us! That’s exciting!
It’s going to take us twelve months to look at all the things Jesus said before He followed up with,
Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock (Matthew 7:24).
Yes, He had much instruction to offer before He spoke a “therefore.” Get your heart ready, because we’re going on a journey- a journey of building a spiritual house that will not fall!
Our September focus is LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE.
Jesus taught, “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven”(Matthew 5:14-16).
Meditate on this: believers do not possess a light of their own, but we reflect the light of His glory!
1. What do John 8:12 and Revelation 21:22-23 say about the source of light?
2. How should we pray if we desire our light to shine before men? See Psalm 4:6.
3. According to Matthew 5:16, what is the result of a believer’s shining the light?
4. What other scriptures can I study to learn about the light of God?
If you choose to journey with us in Building Your House, please share scriptures in the comments below that will encourage us with the September focus to let our light shine. Thanks in advance!
