out of the same mouth come praise and cursing
“You go to that church? I’m so glad that God delivered me from that place!”
This is a classic example of what my pastor identifies as speaking against the Manifold Wisdom of God.
His intent was that now, through the Church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known… (Ephesians 3:10, NIV, emphasis added).
You see, there is one church, one body, of which Christ is the head. To speak against members of the Body is to speak against Jesus Himself, for we are connected. In fact, when you speak against one group of believers, you speak against yourself.
A house divided against itself cannot stand. -Jesus
Dear sister feeling elevated, you hurt us when you spoke those words. You hurt yourself, you hurt me, and you hurt our Lord who gave Himself for His Church. You didn’t speak about deliverance from an institution, you spoke against your own spiritual flesh and blood. I am part of the body for which you praise God delivering you from; I am but one of the many blood-bought sinners now identified with victorious King Jesus and compelled by His love to see His kingdom advance before that great and glorious day when we, His One Body, unite around our Lord’s throne.
I forgive you for words loosely spoken. I’ve spoken them too. Give me ample time, and I will likely need to humble myself before you and seek forgiveness for harming us. I love you because I love myself. And I know that as we take care to present ourselves as a radiant Bride without spot or wrinkle, we will speed the day of His coming!
