enjoy the moment
Another workout – another spiritual truth.
Earlier this week I compared an intense physical workout to the degree by which we aim to grow spiritually. You can read that post here.
Today, I learned something new while on the trail: some runners speed along the course improving their speed, while others seek only to finish hurriedly and proceed to the next thing on the to-do list. I noticed that, for me, it’s all about enjoying the moment! I count it a privilege to have an hour to simply enjoy the beauty of my surroundings, to worship, and to focus on breathing and conquering the next hill. I rarely think about what awaits me at the finish.
Perhaps these differences in our workout approaches also explain our outlook on life as a whole. Some only live to compete and come out on top- of everything. Some rush through the seasons of life always looking for the next thing. Still, others absorb all that is to be learned and experienced while it is still today.
I want to live in the moment, don’t you? I don’t want to miss what God is teaching me right now on the journey!
Back to the trail… I sensed the Lord saying that there would be a delight today. That may sound weird, but if you love exploring the beauty of His creation, you get what I’m saying. Sometimes, it’s deer crossing the trail, an owl flying silently over my head, or acorns coming down like rain…. but today, I sensed no rush to go home after I finished the five miles. I went to a favorite waterfront spot to cool down and to do some core strengthening, and guess what greeted me?
I am now ready to move into the fall season {I realize I’m over a month late} having experienced one of my summertime favorites: dolphins in the James River. To celebrate, I immediately went to the store and bought a pumpkin!
Be still, my friend, and know that He is God! He is speaking and giving you the desires of your heart – are you in position to hear?
He satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s (Psalm 103:5).
