Stand United; Contend for Life
“The terrorists want two things: they want to scare us and they want to divide us. We must do the opposite. We must stand up and we must stay united.” -French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius
After Sunday’s massive rally in Paris, I don’t believe we will see a cowering of the press in its exercising freedom of speech. The law of the land protects that right, and no Islamic terrorist is going to deter them.
I recall President Bush responding similarly in the days immediately following the 9/11 attack on the USA by Islamic terrorists. He told Americans to continue on with the daily routines and do not give way to the terrorists’ attempt to disrupt our lifestyle protected by freedom.
Let us remember, we have the United States Constitution, officials elected to uphold it, and authorities trained to protect citizens by it, and we will obey it and them. We will not succumb to a reign of terror. The laws of Islam have no place in or over our laws protecting life, liberty and justice. On the contrary, our laws are founded on the goodness of the One True God, Jesus Christ, the living Word of God.
Through Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, He has overcome all manner of darkness and evil. Eternal death and Hell have been conquered, and all who choose Jesus will never experience them but will be in His victory train and enjoy eternal life.
Therefore, we do not submit our lives governed by freedom to those whose hearts are ruled by darkness. Those evildoers have a court date scheduled on a calendar known by One alone, and they will stand before the Omniscient Judge and receive His justice that never falters. Until that time, we stand united and contend for life and the promotion of God’s goodness.
We continue to train up our children in the ways of the Lord, teaching them to choose right over wrong, thereby honoring God in whatever they do. In order to live peaceably with others in our world, we must teach our children these words:
“Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. For he is God’s servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God’s servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience” (Romans 13:1- 5).
