100-Day Identity Makeover: Day 4

Day 4

You Are Entrusted With Authority (Luke 10:19)

You overcome all power of the enemy. Jesus spoke to the seventy-two disciples about their successful interactions with demons. Greater than the reality of demons submitting to their authority, however, is the fact that the believers’ “names are written in heaven,” He said (Luke 10:20). The Lord Jesus prioritizes salvation; it is the true reward for His followers, an eternal reality that far outweighs any miraculous power we manifest on earth.

At the same time, we are not left powerless while we live in this temporal world. Jesus told His friends that by His returning to the Father now the Helper would be sent to them. “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever- the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him for He lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you” (John 14:16-18).

The Holy Spirit, Child of God, is your source to outwit, outmatch, and outlast the enemy! This is life-saving news because the thief has come to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). You are entrusted with authority to overcome all power of the enemy! Pay attention to this identity description, because chances are high that you are not fully walking it out!

If you find a thief in your house, would you walk away and allow him to take over your home and family? You absolutely would not!! You would fight to your death to protect the lives of precious loved ones! Yet, when the spiritual thief comes to steal, you fix him dinner! You repeat his words of death and destruction over your life. Your thoughts entertain pictures of a desolate future, and your confessions prove that you accept a current diminished state… You have a thief who works destruction over your mind, attitudes, relationships, finances, and health, but he’s not getting out until you rise up and tell him to go!

If you are a property owner and discover a squatter living in your home or apartment that was supposed to be vacant, you would evict the trespasser, and the law would be on your side. Why? Because as the property owner, you have all authority in deciding who is permitted to live there. The same is true for you spiritually! Stop putting up with nonsense stemming from the pit of hell. Take authority and evict the trespasser!

How well are you executing the authority over your life, the lives of your loved ones, and the lives of those who serve under your leadership? Have you neglected casting out demonic influences in these realms? If you answer yes, then it is probable that you’re failing also to execute authority over the enemy in the world at large. Subdue the earth, God told Adam and Eve. That means we take authority over anything unruly and command its submission to the divine sovereignty of God! David wrote about the authority entrusted to man and said, “You made him ruler over the works of Your hands; You put everything under his feet” (Psalm 8:6).

Perhaps this is the first time that you’re thinking in terms of having authority to overcome all power of the enemy. You have recognized that the enemy is not more powerful than Jesus, but it stopped there. Personally, you understood no authority over darkness and did not exercise it. How does one begin, then, to walk in the authority given to him? First, you must be free from the enemy’s deception.

Can I be candid with you? I vividly recall a desperate prayer years ago in which I asked the Lord to sear His Word upon my heart. I mean, I was sobbing. (Sounds overly dramatic, doesn’t it?) But hear me out on this. I was being led by the Spirit to earnestly ask the Lord to transform my life through the renewing of my mind. I remember saying, “If your Word is not inside of me, I don’t know what’s going to happen to me.” I can’t emphasize adequately the sheer desperation of heart by which I made my plea to the Father.  I understand more fully today why there was such an urgency in my spirit. You see, we’re all accessible to the enemy, but we’re not all susceptible to his deception. Only those who guard in their hearts the truth of God according to His perfect Word will walk free from entanglement.

This is the Father’s will for you: receive His love shown to you in the giving of His Son, Jesus, and live free from deception that prevents full enjoyment of God’s Presence.

Walk It Out  Hear God’s Word and put it into practice (Luke 8:21).

As an ambassador of the kingdom of heaven, usher in justice and righteousness in this world. Never sit idly by while destruction has free reign. Start with prayer and go from there!
