100-Day Identity Makeover: Day 17
You Are Declared Righteous (Romans 2:13-15)
In a group discussion centered on the truth found in Hebrews 4:16, one member confessed that she sometimes does not feel worthy to approach God’s throne. And she was right. Apart from the sin-cleansing power of Jesus’ blood, none is worthy to commune with Holy God. Therefore, the follower of Jesus Christ must reflect on the grace of God extended to the sinner through Jesus Christ when he or she is reminded of his past sin, current sinful state, or the temptation to sin. Have you confessed your sin and turned from it to draw near to God but still find yourself mindful of sin? The Bible states that Jesus’ life was the final sacrifice for sin. “Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, His body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:19-23).
Righteousness, or right standing with God, is made possible only through believing upon the sacrifice of Jesus life. The reason the enemy of your soul reminds you often of past sin is because it is an effective tactic to keep you from seeking God. Mindful of your previously sinful state, you are more likely to run from His Presence in belief that you are not worthy to commune with Him. Yet, God says the power of Jesus blood removes your sin as far as the east is from the west (See Psalm 103:12). And, “if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).
“Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being praise His holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul and forget not all His benefits- who forgives all your sins…” (Psalm 103:1-3).
Child of God, you are declared righteous by God because by faith you believe you are washed and forgiven of your sin. Faith is the necessary element to the bold acclaim of righteousness. Although my memory reminds me of my past sin, and although I know how I struggle with weakness when tempted, I can still stand on God’s Word and know that He declares me righteous because of my believing upon the power of Jesus’ blood.
Your spiritual journey began with a faith confession, and it continues daily in faith. You must live by faith to please God. It’s not confidence in self- “that’s useless. Cultivate God-confidence” (1 Corinthians 10:12, MSG). It’s a confidence in the finished work of Jesus on the cross and in His resurrection from the grave.
Walk It Out Hear God’s Word and put it into practice (Luke 8:21).
Because the righteous are as bold as a lion (Proverbs 28:1), take a current need or concern to the throne of God with thanksgiving because you know He receives you, accepts you, hears your prayer and answers it.
