In a Dry and Weary Land
Hagar, the Egyptian maidservant of Sarai, knew in her time of fleeing to seek out a source of life- such was the way of survival in her homeland. All of life centered on the mighty Nile River. She is distraught over having displeased her mistress, so it is here by the stream that God encounters her and speaks of a future hope.
This world doesn’t have anything to offer when we find ourselves on empty- nothing that truly satisfies. May we, like Hagar, run to the Source of life and find the satisfaction our soul longs for.
“You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek You; I thirst for You, my whole being longs for You, in a dry and parched land where there is no water” (Psalm 63:1).
