100-Day Identity Makeover: Day 31

Day 31

You Are United With God’s Love (Romans 8:39)

“Oh, God, You never gave up on me!”

Listening to this cry of my friend’s heart blessed me. She was so wrapped in the presence of God that she could barely stand as she declared the unfailing love of the Father.

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail” (Lamentations 3:22).

Think about it: God’s love for you is uninterrupted! Despite your having turned away in pride and rebellion… Despite your boredom with Jesus or your neglect to bring Him the glory He is deserving… His love remains steadfast, and nothing can separate the believer from it.

Love put Jesus on the cross. Love kept Him there so that the full payment for your sin and the sin of all humanity could be paid (Jesus could have been rescued from dying on the cross had He not wanted to complete the mission given Him by the Father). And it wasn’t because you were a righteous person that Christ sacrificed His life. No, in fact, you were a sinner, but He died for you so you may be forgiven and your sins forgotten. Isn’t that amazing? That’s how much God loves you.

Maybe the expression, God loves you, lost its impact somewhere along the way. You’ve heard it countless times, right?  But remember, He knit you together in your mother’s womb, and He cherishes you. NOTHING can separate the believer from the love of God. His Word makes clear that there isn’t anything in all creation that could wedge a successful separation from His everlasting love.

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).

Love tells fear to hit the road.

Child of God, when you own the truth that you are united with God’s love, your life is rooted and fear loses its effect! It’s true! “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment” (1 John 4:18).

Have you ever wondered why some believers exude a rock-solid confidence in the faithfulness of God? They have banked all the issues of life on this truth: I am united with God’s love. So when thoughts of future financial needs bring a temptation to worry, you only need to remember that God’s love never fails you. I’m not making this up; I only repeat what God has already spoken! “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’ So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid'” (Hebrews 13:5-6).

So, here is your litmus test: if fear has taken root in any part of your life, you need to bathe that thing in the truth of God’s unfailing love for you. No excuses! His perfect love eradicates fear and subsequent worry concerning all the issues of life.

Friend, God is completely devoted to His covenant of love. He proved it when He gave His Son.  Your part in becoming united with His love was to believe upon Jesus’ death and resurrection and declare Him Lord of your life!

Walk It Out     Hear God’s Word and put it into practice (Luke 8:21).

Identify fears that you allow to reside within you and find scriptures to counteract each fear with truth. Write down the verses and memorize them. Keep the verses with you in a pocket or handbag and use them each time the temptation to fear arises.
