Wailing Wall Visit

I’m so thankful that the Jews continue their sincere worship at the Wailing Wall in spite of us tourists. They were not distracted by us, but I must admit, I was too busy taking in all the activity there to settle my heart and worship.

I inserted a written prayer into the wall, something that I had imagined doing for years! I prayed quickly and went back to people-watching… the women on a riser at the dividing wall were looking into the men’s side to witness a young Jewish man’s bat mitzvah. Younger and older women alike were seated or up at the wall with the Scriptures in hand and praying. I witnessed another woman doing a very common act of reverence upon her departure- she walked backwards until she got to an appropriate distance from the wall, as if to say, “God, I will not turn my back on You.”

When I returned home earlier this month, I continued to think on the state of God’s chosen people. Many refuse to acknowledge Jesus Christ, the Messiah. Still, God’s plan has never altered; redemption of Israel remains in motion, and Romans 11 grants us understanding of how it all comes together. “Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved…” (Romans 11:25-26).

The good doctor, Luke, wrote Jesus’ words concerning the end times in which He stated there will be signs in the heavens and on the earth.

“When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near” (Luke 21:28, NIV).

So, while at the Western Wall in Jerusalem, I found no need for wailing! I looked up to heaven and thanked the Father for His plan of redemption- for all who believe upon His Son. I am so thankful for His forgiveness and His welcoming me into His family!

We do not despair over Israel’s state- she belongs to God Almighty and His plan is her redemption!

Perhaps you face circumstances in your personal life that cause you to wonder how things will ever work out… will my family be restored, or will my finances get in order, or am I ready to parent this child on the way? The same counsel spoken over Israel stands true for you: Lift up your head- God is redeeming this situation for His glory!
